How Search Works

searchwall.io uses a manual curation approach where you control exactly which pages are searchable. This gives you complete control over what users can find on your website.

Key Concept: Manual Page Addition

Unlike traditional search engines that crawl your entire site, searchwall.io only searches through the pages you explicitly add to your dashboard. This means:

  • You decide which pages are searchable
  • Private or member-only pages stay private unless you add them
  • You can add metadata, categories, tags, and custom fields to improve searchability
  • Search results are instant and accurate because they're pre-indexed

1. Add Pages Manually

In your dashboard, manually add each page you want to be searchable. Include the page title, URL, optional image, and any custom fields you've configured.

2. Configure Custom Fields

Set up custom fields like categories, ingredients, tags, or any other metadata. These fields become searchable and help users find content more easily.

What Gets Searched?

When a user searches, searchwall.io searches through:

1

Page Titles

The title of each page you've added

Example: "Chocolate Cake Recipe"

2

Custom Field Values

All text values in your custom fields

Example: Category: "Desserts", Ingredients: ["chocolate", "flour"]

3

Array Fields

Each item in array fields (like ingredients or tags)

Example: Searching "chocolate" finds pages with "chocolate" in the ingredients array

4

URLs

The URL path of each page

Example: "/recipes/chocolate-cake"

Quick Start Guide

1

Sign Up & Configure Custom Fields

Create your account and set up custom fields that match your content structure. For example, if you're adding recipes, you might create fields like "category" (text), "ingredients" (array), and "difficulty" (text).

2

Add Your Pages

Go to the Pages section in your dashboard and add each page you want to be searchable. Fill in the title, URL, optional image, and all your custom fields. Only pages you add here will be searchable.

3

Get Your Integration Code

Copy the integration code from your dashboard. This code includes your unique customer ID and is ready to paste into your website.

4

Add Code to Your Website

Paste the code into your Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, or any website that supports custom HTML/JavaScript. The search widget will appear where you place the code.

Integration Code

After adding your pages, you'll get a code snippet like this. Copy it from your dashboard and paste it into your website:

<!-- SearchWall.io Integration -->
<div id="saas-search"></div>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://searchwall.io/widget/v1.0.0/search-widget.css">
<script src="https://searchwall.io/widget/v1.0.0/search-widget.js"
        data-customer-id="your-customer-id"></script>

Note: Replace your-customer-id with your actual customer ID from your dashboard.

Customization

Customize the search widget colors in your dashboard to match your brand:

Primary Color - Main accent color for buttons and highlights
Border Color - Border color for the search input
Text Color - Text color for search results
Background Color - Background color for the widget

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to add every page manually?

Yes, searchwall.io uses a manual curation approach. You add only the pages you want to be searchable. This gives you complete control over what users can find, which is especially important for member-only content.

What if I want to add a page later?

Simply go to your dashboard, click "Add New Page", fill in the details, and it will immediately become searchable. No need to update your integration code.

Can I edit or delete pages?

Yes! You can edit any page to update its title, URL, image, or custom fields. You can also delete pages if you no longer want them to be searchable.

How do custom fields work?

Custom fields are additional data you can add to each page. For example, a recipe page might have custom fields like "category" (Desserts), "ingredients" (chocolate, flour, sugar), and "difficulty" (Easy). All these fields are searchable.

Will search work on member-only pages?

Yes! That's the main advantage of searchwall.io. Since you manually add pages, you can add member-only pages that Squarespace's built-in search doesn't support. The search widget will work on any page where you place the code.

How do I update the search widget colors?

Go to your dashboard, navigate to the Integration section, adjust the color sliders, and copy the updated code. The new colors will be included in the code snippet.
